Pregnancy Questions...

I have had a few questions lately and wondering if anyone has any wise (or random) answers...
  • What should you take when you are sick with a cold?  Is extra vitamins ever harmful?
  • If you could choose just one baby item you love and wouldn't want to do without, what would it be?
  • How did you do at sleeping on your side?  Did it kind of freak you out if you woke up on your back?
  • When did you first feel movement?
  • How should we share the news about the baby's gender?  We are taking creative suggestions.
Thanks!  The size of our baby this week (a turnip):

  1. Hey Beanie,
Here are my thoughts (even though I am by no means an expert!)

-I've heard that vitamin c supplements early on can be questionable (although this week I've had a cold and did drink some Emergen C). Getting vitamin c through foods/juice is safe though.
    - I heard that the Baby Ergo carriers are awesome, and so I registered for one for my shower!
-I sleep on my side anyway, but have woken up on my back many times, and have heard it's nothing to worry about. A pillow under your knees (when on your left side) helps make it more comfortable.
-I felt first some movement around 18 weeks, I think? They were very slight and became more noticeable by week 19. I may have felt it before 18 weeks, but that is when I knew it was actually the baby and not just my stomach grumbling or something!
-And I'm so happy you are finding out the baby's gender! I didn't think I could wait to hear :)! Friends of ours knew a couple who had a "boy or girl?" party to share the news. They had their doctor write down what they were having on a slip of paper (without them seeing it) and gave it to a cake maker. The cake maker put either blue or pink frosting inside depending on whether it was a boy or a girl. At the party, when they cut into it, they saw that they were having either a boy or a girl by the frosting! It was cool because everyone found out together. Just a thought :)

  2. well first, one of the best things, i thought, about being pregnant is that i had a doctor around if i needed anything. if i was worried, i just called my doctor and asked her, for any ailment. if you want to ask, or go see them, just call your doctor, or midwife i guess. i think you need to make sure that you are getting enough sleep and eating good quality food (stop rick from going to the grocery store).
my favorite baby item was the hand held video monitor. it is about $100 more (at least) than any other monitor, but it is worth it. ask mr. frugal-coby. i will not go without it. babies make a lot of noise and you can just roll over and see if it is something you need to get out of bed for. no jumping out of bed to see what is wrong. when they are older and may be having a fit, you can look and see if they really need you or not. they have bigger ones but the hand held one is just much more convenient, you can even clip it on your pants. (i did get an ergo and it was great as well)
one thing that helped me not roll onto my back is that i had a big body pillow that wrapped from my head to my knees and around to almost my back. i was encased and don't remember rolling over much. but i wouldn't worry about waking up and finding yourself there, just try not to be on your back very much.
i don't remember when i felt movement, but i do remember that we were at the movies. i guess that doesn't help though.
i don't have any creative ideas, but i liked brenna's.
